Kara Awakoaiye

KARA AWAKOAIYE
KaRa Awakoaiye is a 3-year letter varsity sprinter on Bishop O’Dowd’s Track and Field team. The junior is the 3-time Western Alameda County Conference league champion in the 100 meter hurdles. This year she also earned the league title in the 200 meters, won the sprint hurdles at the Sacramento Track Classic and the Oakland Invitational, and was a member of the record setting 800 meter Sprint Medley Relay at the Twilight Relays.
Her performance outdoors matches her indoor efforts, where she broke the 60 meter hurdle record at the New Balance Boise Indoor Invitational, and earned the silver at the Simplot Games in Idaho. The Oakland native is a 3-time AAU Junior Olympic champion, having earned gold in the 4×100 meter relay, 200 meter hurdles, and the 100 meter hurdles.
KaRa has earned academic honors in high school, having earned California Scholarship Federation recognition every semester, and she was inducted into the National Honor Society in April of this year. At Bishop O’Dowd she is a peer tutor and provides tutoring in math, from Algebra to Calculus, English, Spanish, and AP Psychology. She is an active campus leader, serving on the Black Student Union’s executive council, and as a campus ambassador.
KaRa has interest in studying psychology and marketing with an interest in graphic design. She has interned with “Hack the Hood”, where she designed web pages for several local Oakland companies. She will complete a marketing internship this summer with WineFineDarkChicks.com, where the gifted writer will contribute articles for the site.
