1Bishop O’Dowd 15-1The Dragons went on a 12-game winning streak that ended with the school’s first football state championship. Former Raiders star Napolean Kaufman coached the Dragons to the most wins in the Bay Area.
1McClymonds 13-1Second only in wins, Coach Michael Peters & the Warriors won the first football state championship in school, section and Oakland history. Two of California’s best high school football teams were on opposite sides of Oakland.
3Castlemont 6-6Under Coach Ed Washington the Knights advanced to their first Silver Bowl appearance in eight years.
4Oakland Tech 5-5In just his second season, Coach Virdell Larkins led the Bulldogs to the #2 seed in the OAL (5-1) and advanced to the second round of the OAL playoffs.
5Fremont 6-5Coach Terry Hendrix and the Tigers tied for 3rd in wins but lost to the eventual state champions in the first round of the playoffs.
